Important Information about our crossing guards

Due to staffing shortages, we are unable to provide coverage at all school crossings for the 2022-2023 school year. Our first responsibility is to provide crossing guards at locations that are required by State law. According to UCA 41-6a-303(3)(ii), the City is required to provide, train, and supervise school crossing guards at all reduced-speed school zones on highways. In our Crossing Triage Table (CTT), these locations are designated as mandatory and highlighted in green. Next, we will focus on crossings that are considered priority. As a general rule, priority crossings are in areas with wide roads, higher speeds, or greater vehicular traffic; in our CTT, these locations are highlighted in orange. All remaining school crossings, highlighted in yellow in our CTT, will not be staffed until we can obtain and hire more applicants. Please refer to the maps for additional information.  If you are interested in serving as a crossing guard, please contact Sgt. Ryan Carter at 801-614-9639 or rcarter@syracuseut.gov.
