In November, as the West Bountiful Arts Council winds down it’s 2022 summer/fall concert series they will bring Susie Carter to the stage. She will be performing her annual “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas” Concert.

As we reflect on what we have come to know about Susie and her very special talent two things are certain. First, concertgoers will be treated to a genre of Susie Carter favorites. And 2nd, that her mellow tones will transition them easily from Broadway, to Thanksgiving, and to Christmas.

So what else do we know about Susie? She was raised in Mesa, Arizona and then lived in Idaho for 20 years. She said, “My family loved music and we all took piano lessons for at least one year. I didn’t like lessons…so I only took one year. But, two of my sisters and I also played violin and viola. My Sister Julie and I sang together a lot growing up and we still do whenever we can.”

Susie, also said, “I sang all through my school years and then had the opportunity to go to school at BYU-Hawaii.  I sang with the showcase choir that toured the Islands, a real highlight for me. After I got married I even taught (sort of) some voice lessons. Most of my students already knew how to sing, and just needed a few tips and the right songs to sing. Since moving to Utah, I sing mainly for community gatherings like West Bountiful’s concerts, which I LOVE, church, weddings and class reunions. One of my most favorite things to do is sing at Dick’s Market at Christmastime. I earn tips and help needy families or a child in need. It means a great deal to me when the many friends I have made there, tell me they enjoy the atmosphere and the Christmas spirit I bring when I sing.”

Over the years Susie has sung with various bands and groups as a soloist. She loves the theater and said, “I’ve been in many fun productions. My most favorite roles were Winifred in “Once Upon a Mattress” and Miss Hanagun from “Annie”.

Susie is married to Butch Carter who was raised in Bountiful and they now live in West Bountiful. She has 4 children and he has 4 children. When they got married they had 6 teenagers in the house and Susie said, “No it was not like the Brady Bunch!” They are now empty nesters, at least part of the time, as children sometimes come and go. But for now, Susie said, “They simply cherish their “honeymoon” time together.

Please join us on Friday, November 11, for our “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas” Susie Carter fall concert. It starts at 7:00 pm and is held at the West Bountiful City Hall, on 550 North 800 West.
