Todd Weiler shared a series of posts on April 4, 2026, recounting the story of a couple navigating a long-distance relationship between Buenos Aires and Montevideo.
In one post, Weiler described the couple’s efforts to maintain their relationship despite the distance: “4/ In addition to their weekly calls, they made costly trips each month to see each other. The one-way journey between Buenos Aires and Montevideo took eight hours and required a ferry ride and a lengthy bus ride.” (April 4, 2026).
He continued by detailing the pivotal moment in their relationship: “5/ After six months of calls and travel, the couple realized they had a decision to make. They knew that to marry, one of them would need to leave their native country, family and friends, and education and job opportunities to start a new life with the other.” (April 4, 2026).
Weiler concluded with the outcome of their decision: “6/ Ultimately, they felt guided to marry, and it was decided that Sister Ortega would join him in Argentina. They were married in the Montevideo Uruguay Temple.” (April 4, 2026).
The Montevideo Uruguay Temple is an important religious site for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South America. Long-distance relationships like this often require significant personal sacrifices due to geographical separation.
