Todd Weiler shared a series of tweets recounting key moments from the life and ministry of Elder Ulisses Soares, an apostle in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
On April 4, 2026, Weiler posted about a formative experience for Soares: “3/ Years before becoming an apostle, Soares was at a devotional in Rio de Janeiro where then-Elder Russell M. Nelson was speaking — and the translator never showed up. With no experience translating side by side, Soares was asked to step in. He was nervous and made mistakes …”
Continuing the story later that day, Weiler added: “4/ … but Nelson was patient and kind throughout. Elder Soares is the son of two converts land his wife Rosana is also a convert. His sister-in-law Margareth is married to fellow General Authority Elder Claudio R. M. Costa.”
In another tweet on April 4, 2026, Weiler noted recent milestones in Soares’ service: “5/ In January 2024, Elder Soares became the first apostle to visit the small Caribbean island of Bonaire, fulfilling a promise he had made in 2019 to one day visit all three islands of the Church’s ABC District — Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao.
